Platform Housing Group is supporting LGBT History Month (LGBTHM) by funding a series of events organised by Out2gether.
Platform Housing Group is working with Out2gether to organise a number of events in celebration of LGBTHM, which runs throughout the month of February. The theme of this year’s LGBTHM is ‘Poetry, Prose and Plays’ and is in memory of Lyra McKee, a young Northern Irish journalist who was killed in 2019 during sectarian violence riots.
Tom Piotrowski, Diversity and Inclusion Adviser at Platform Housing Group, said: “We are delighted to team up with Out2gether again for this year’s LGBT History Month events. While contributions of the LGBT community are widely recognised and appreciated, there are still instances of prejudice that we would like to address and challenge by bringing the entire community together. As a housing association we promote harmony and cohesion wherever we provide housing solutions. As an employer we are also keen on welcoming interest and applications from within the LGBT community and equally all others”.
Out2gether, who are organising the events, have received support from Platform Housing Group since their inception. Out2gether is a group of local LGBT activists, volunteers and allies including Platform Housing Group employees and customers.
Nicola Longworth-Cook, co-founder at Out2gether, said: “This year’s theme is ‘Poetry, Prose and Plays’ and we’re thrilled to have some very special events coming up including a creative writing workshop at the Hive and a spoken word evening in Great Malvern. Out2gether’s annual History Month Quiz is also back - always a fun evening!”
The first event of the month was a film night at The Hive, Worcester, on 7th Feb; the film being shown was ‘The Shiny Shrimps’, an LGBT sports underdog film.
