Campaign launched to upskill local tradespeople

As part of our ongoing commitment to our workforce, we're  organising a series of upskilling workshops for our Property Care staff.

Dennis Evans, Group Property Care Director explained : “Like many other housing associations up and down the country, we have seen a surge in demand for skilled tradespeople.  As part of this we are equipping our staff with extra skills which have a direct effect on our customers.  Our aim is that such initiatives will help us to continue to develop a robust and thorough organisation.  We believe in better people.”

Curtis Holland, a painter and decorator at  Property Care decided to attend the course to add to his skill set and benefit both himself and the job that he does.

He said : “I found the course to be very indepth and rewarding.  The tutor was both professional and knowledgeable regarding basic plumbing; he was also really helpful and made it easy to understand and take in.  All that I learnt – from how to drain and remove a radiator to how to plug a leak by soldering joints – will be put to good use and I would like to thank my employer for the opportunity to extend my skill set.”

Ruth Heywood, Acting Chief Executive Officer at Worcester Community Trust said : “We are thrilled to have set up a new partnership with  Property Care (formerly Fortis Property Care) through our Skills and Construction Centre, The Building Block which is based at our Warndon Community Hub. The Building Block staff are working hard to deliver a range of professional accredited courses from City and Guilds to give employees the opportunity to be the most skilled frontline workforce in the area. We have scheduled 9 courses for the Property Care team over the next six months and are very excited to be working closely with them.”

The Building Block – which is part of Worcester Community Trust – helps members of the public learn and develop building and DIY skills; it provides a range of skills courses including bricklaying, plumbing, plastering, tiling and woodwork.
